- To prepare field site personnel for children to visit in the context of a project.
- To teach children in advance of a field visit to observe and make field notes.
- To teach children to interview experts.
- To guide children in carrying out productive field work.
- To evaluate the work achieved in the field by the children.
- To assess the children's interests.
- To design possibilities for follow-up work in the classroom.
