This is a course designed for teachers who are concerned to help children (ECS/K - Grade/Year 6) to develop their thinking, interests and personal strengths in projects undertaken in school. Discussion will focus on ways to help children to apply language and math skills and extend their knowledge in science and social studies. Individual and collaborative learning, problem solving, field work, observational drawing and the use of a variety of graphic organizers will be examined through the in-depth study of local real world topics or themes. Alternative forms of documentation, evaluation and assessment of children's learning will be examined.
The following teaching concerns will be addressed:
How to provide choices in the curriculum and maintain high standards of work
How to challenge the most able students and meet individual learning needs
How to offer multi-age experience and maintain grade level performance
How to guide children's learning while offering opportunities for autonomy
How to offer varieties of learning experience and ensure quality for all
