			<title>Standards of Experience</title>
			<link>http://www.nethowto.net/project/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=79&amp;Itemid=9</link>
			<description>

In the May 2007 issue of the journal Young Children, Lilian Katz has written an article on the topic of standards in early childhood education. She presents the case for providing experiences for children that support them in their quest for understanding. This is in contrast with the idea of delivering educational end products or outcomes. She cites as examples of standards of experience for the child: to be intellectually engaged and absorbed, to be intellectually challenged, to be involved in sustained inverstigations, to have confidence in their questions, to feel that they belong to a group of their peers, among several others. Lilian Katz also invites educators to add to the list for themselves.

			<title>Children using Clipboards</title>
			<link>http://www.nethowto.net/project/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=80&amp;Itemid=9</link>
			<description>I returned early in February from working in Australia where I met with a group of teachers who had taken a workshop on the Project Approach a year ago. They were able to share how much they had achieved since then. They reported how well the children had taken to using the clipboards on field visits to collect information on the topics they were interested in. It is amazing how much young children can record on a clipboard to work with when they are back in the classroom. Here you can see a picture of a first grade child using the clipboard to record her observations.</description>

			<description>

Sometimes children are interested in unexpected places...

These children were in a group visiting greenhouses with a wealth of fascinating plant life. Yet water was the thing that came to interest many of the boys. Notice, though, how carefully one boy is holding the delicate aromatic geranium leaf he was given, even as he peers into the murky depths...
